Mary Lou Alison, 82, of Halstead, died at 12:57 a.m. Monday (June 26, 2017) at Homestead Place in Halstead.

Born June 25, 1935, in Middletown, Ohio, she was the daughter of Glenn A. and Katherine Bohne Offenhauer. On Jan. 26, 1954, she married Earnest "Wayne" Alison in Palmetto, Florida.

Mary Lou made her home in Halstead upon her marriage and became active in the community and was an enthusiastic booster. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, where she served on numerous committees and helped with Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She was a charter member of Club Amicarum and was active in PTA and Girl Scouts.

She was owner-operator of Playtime Ceramics and was the first director of the Halstead Housing Authority.

She and her husband were the Halstead Old Settlers King and Queen in 2012. They also won the Harold Rea Good Neighbor Award. Mrs. Alison was active in Kansas senior legislative issues. She was an avid golfer and belonged to the Wedgewood Ladies Golf Association.

Besides her husband, survivors include five children: Dale (Allison) Alison of Burlington, Iowa, Dean (Renae) Alison of Hesston, Karen (Gerald) Koehn of Halstead, Sherri (Greg) Van Campen of Fort Worth, Texas, and Alan (Tamara) Alison of Strawn, Texas; nine grandchildren: Aaron (Nanette) Van Campen of Sugar Land, Texas, Travis (Debbie) Van Campen of Fort Worth, Texas, Ryan (Shannon) Van Campen of Dallas, Ben (Sarah) Alison of Harrisonburg, Virginia, Matthew (Marissa) Alison of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Kate (Steffen) Sommers of Akron, Pennsylvania, Kendra Alison of Hesston, Rachel Alison of Bristol, Rhode Island, and Owen Alison and Ross Alison, both of Strawn, Texas; six great-grandchildren: Elijah, Evan, Rebekah and Quinlyn Van Campen of Fort Worth and Kanyon and Hope Van Campen of Sugar Land, Texas; two brothers, Vaughn Offenhauer of Ruskin, Florida, and Keith Offenhauer of Anna Maria, Florida; and nieces and nephew.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents; parents; and a brother, Lin Offenhauer.

Per her wishes, she has been cremated; a memorial service is planned for 2 p.m. Friday (June 30, 2017) at Halstead United Methodist Church.

Memorials have been established with the Halstead First United Methodist Church and the Halstead Historical Society, both in care of the Halstead Community Foundation, Box 4, Halstead.
