Obituary

Lawrence Gustav "Larry" Andres, 72, born on Nov. 2, 1938, in Newton, to Orlando and Esther (Foth) Andres, died at his home in the arms of his wife on Sept. 30, 2011. Diabetes and heart disease contributed to his cardiac failure.

He and his first wife, Libby (Elizabeth Ann Dyrness) brought forth four beautiful children: Jonathan and wife, Laura, of St. Louis, David and wife, Beverly, of Cranbury, N.J., Elizabeth and husband, David Steed, of Fort Worth, Texas, and Jeremy of Washington, their "Upper" Down's Syndrome son who predeceased his father in 1996 at age 19 1⁄2. Larry and Libby would have been married 50 years this year (July 21, 1961), but Libby died of cancer in 1979 at age 41. A year later, Larry married Gabette (Gabrielle-Elizabeth Hamlin), who survives him.

Nine amazing grandchildren survive him: two girls and a boy in each family. He also is survived by his sister, Joan Andres Corey of West Terre Haute, Ind.

Larry also leaves behind loving relatives in Newton.

A pastor first and then a seller of smoked meats, he would quip he preached the Truth on the weekend and sold bologna during the week.

The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Moles Greenacres Funeral Chapel, 5700 Northwest Drive in Ferndale, Wash., with burial immediately following at Woodlawn Cemetery nearby.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pacific Garden Mission Building Fund in Chicago ("Unshackled") or to the local Bellingham Light House Mission.
