Wilma Stucky
Obituary
Wilma Stucky, 86, died on Thursday (Dec. 29, 2011) in Whitewater. She was born
on July 23, 1925, in Whitewater. She was raised in Whitewater and attended
school there. Following high school, she took teacher training at Bethel
College and taught one-room school for seven years. On Sept. 4, 1953, she
married Harry Stucky, and they made their home and farmed in the Cassoday area.
Three children were born to this union, Beverly, Elwyn and Kerry. Wilma was a
busy mother and helped with the farm work.
In 1981, son Kerry died from lymphoma, and Harry suffered a
series of small strokes that caused him to need Wilma's care for the next eight
years. Harry passed away in 1989.
Following Harry's death, Wilma served for five years at
Bethlehem House in El Dorado, supporting and encouraging unwed mothers. In
1999, Wilma moved to Mid Town Towers in Newton, where she began the restful
season of her life.
Wilma is survived by a daughter, Beverly and husband, Allan
Lister of rural Newton; a son, Elwyn and wife, Cherry of Whitewater; three
brothers, Willard Thiessen, David Thiessen and Floyd Thiessen; sisters, Edna
Flora, Esther Stucky, Selma Entz and Lois Frey; two grandchildren; and two
stepgrandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Kaete
Thiessen; four brothers; her husband, Harry; and a son, Kerry.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Lamb Funeral
Home in Whitewater.
The committal service will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday at First
Mennonite Church Cemetery near Burns. The memorial service will follow at 11
a.m. Monday at Newton Bible Church.
Memorials may be designated to Berean Academy or Newton
Christian High School.
