Obituary
Frank P. Alvarez, 77, died on Tuesday (March 30, 2010) at
Newton Medical Center.
He was born on July 20, 1932, in Abilene to Jesse (Lopez)
and Miguel Alvarez.
On Sept. 17, 1957, he married Joan A. Salas in Enid, Okla.
They celebrated 53 years of a blessed marriage.
Upon graduating from high school, Frank was drafted to the
U. S. Navy, where he served four years for his country.
He held a membership with Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic
Church in Newton. Frank was a 4th degree Knights of Columbus member, a member
of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars of Newton.
Frank worked as a section foreman for the Santa Fe Railroad
and retired after 40 years of service. He then went on to work for Builder's
Concrete for 11 years and most recently was employed at Dillon's of Newton for
four years. Frank enjoyed dancing with Joan and their friends, and he loved his
grandchildren dearly.
Survivors include his loving wife Joan of Newton; two sons,
Frank M. Alvarez and Patrick E. (Wendy) Alvarez, both of Wichita; three
brothers, Ralph (Rosemary) Alvarez of San Diego, Calif., Joe (Connie) of Lost
Springs and John (Ellen) of Abiline; three sisters, Patricia (Larry) of Newton,
Louise (Paul) Llamas of Abilene and Mary (Oscar) Yabarra of Galva; grandson,
Christopher; four granddaughters, Whitney, Paris, Summer and Autumn; and one
great-grandson, Braden.
Preceding him in death were his parents and a son, Albert V.
Alvarez; three brothers, Ramond, Saymond (Mike), Tony, Manuel; and a sister,
Lupie Fuentes.
A funeral mass was at 10 a.m. today at Our Lady of Guadalupe
with the Rev. Juan Garza as the celebrant.
Recitation of the Holy Rosary and visitation were Thursday.
Burial will be at the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in
Newton.
