Guadalupe Martel 'Lupe' Briseno
Guadalupe Martel "Lupe" Briseno, 87, of Newton , died
Wednesday (Dec. 2, 2009) at the Life Care Center of Andover. Lupe was born on
Oct. 2, 1922, in Juarez, Mexico, the son of Juan G. and Felipa Martel Briseno.
He married Bertha R. Garnica on Sept. 1, 1949. She died on May 16, 2006. Lupe
had been a hard worker, retiring from the city of Newton. He also had done
janitorial work at Friendly Acres. Through the years, Lupe worked at the Skelly
Gas Station and Larez and Son's. He last worked for Rhino Linings of Newton.
Lupe had been involved with Alcoholics Anonymous for 33
years. He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church where he had
served as a church usher. He also was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include sons Benjamin Briseno of Newton, Charles
Briseno and his wife Lucy of Dodge City, and Guadalupe Briseno Jr. and his wife
Karen of Andover; daughters Esperanza "Hope" Burkett and her husband
Richard of Newton and Andrea Briseno of Newton; one brother Luis Briseno; three
sisters Julie Pate, Pilar Briseno and Phyllis Briseno; grandchildren John,
Lenny, Trina, Errica, Vincent Martel, Courtney, Terri Lynn and Marie; 11 great
grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Lupe is preceded in death by his parents; wife; brothers
Frank, Steven, Richard; sisters Joba Rodriguez and Dora Martinez .
Friends may call from noon to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral
home, where the family will receive friends between 5 and 7 p.m.
Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be at 10 a.m. Monday at
Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Newton with the Mass of Christian
Burial to be at 11 a.m. Interment will be in St. Mary 's Cemetery.
A memorial has been established with the Newton Knights of
Columbus and Newton Alcoholics Anonymous. Contributions may be sent to Broadway
