Eugene 'Gene' W. Schmidt
Eugene 'Gene' W. Schmidt, 64, died Thursday (Oct. 1, 2009)
at his home in Newton. He was born on Sept. 19, 1945, in Goessel, the son of
Velma (Friesen) and Willard Schmidt. They reside in Newton. On April 20, 1968,
he married Bonne R. Mosiman at Faith Mennonite Church in Newton. She survives
of the home. He was a member of First Church of God in Newton. Other survivors
include a brother, Larry (Renee) Schmidt of Newton; a sister, Janice (Shawn)
Kessler of Newton; three grandchildren, Felica, Brandon and Danny; and
son-in-law, Jimmy Smith of Newton.
Preceding him in death were two daughters, Elisa Sue Schmidt
and April Dawn Smith, and two sisters, Darlene Griffin and Donna Sue Schmidt.
Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Broadway
Colonial Funeral Home in Newton, with the family greeting friends from 6 to 8
p.m.
A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at First
Church of God. Pastor Brian Curran will preside.
A private family burial will take place at a later date.

Eugene W. Schmidt Memorial Fund in care of the funeral home.
