Sheila Ann Ratzlaff

Sheila A. Ratzlaff, 68, of Newton, died Monday (Oct. 5, 2009) at Newton Medical Center. She was born on Nov. 5, 1940, in Newton to Harold B. and Nina Mae (Libhart) Kochenower. They preceded her in death. On Sept. 16, 1961, she married Bruce Ratzlaff in Moundridge. He survives of the home. She enjoyed gardening and feeding the birds. She also enjoyed collecting angels. Taking her two special dogs for car rides was a highlight of the day for her. Family was very important to Sheila. She loved to babysit and spoil her grandson, Jason. She greatly looked forward to spending time with her many friends and loving family.

Other survivors include sons, Dennis Ratzlaff of Otto, N.C., Brian Ratzlaff of Otto, and Gregory and Melissa Ratzlaff of Newton; grandson, Jason Ratzlaff of Newton; brother, Dan and Vickie Kochenower of Newton; sisters, Judy and Ronnie Schmidt of LeHigh, and Joyce and Charlie Campbell of Pedro, Ohio.; aunt, Rose Marie Kochenower of Newton; brothers-in-law, Ivan and Ailene Ratzlaff of Jacksonville, Ala., and Johnnie and Doris Ratzlaff of Newton; sisters-in-law, Kathryn Gering of Rogersville, Tenn., and Iris and Lee Dobler of Cottonwood, Ariz.; and several nieces and nephews.

She also was preceded in death by a brother, Harold Kochenower Jr.

Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Petersen Funeral Home in Newton, with family receiving friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Restlawn Gardens of Memory in Newton, with Chaplain Peter Hartman of Hospice Care of Kansas in North Newton officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to Caring Hands Humane Society or Salvation Army in care of the funeral home.
