Paul passed from mortality to immortality to be with the lord and his wife of more than 70 years on Tuesday, September 6, 2011 at 9:15 a.m. Born at the family farm in Bacon Hill, NY, on February 28, 1914. Paul hunted, trapped, and fished until he was old enough to join the Civilian Conservation Corps. Serving in California and Idaho, he worked on many different forest projects. Returning to Schuylerville, he then went to work in the paper mills. After meeting and marrying Kay, they moved to Schenectady to work as a machinist in the General Electric Experimental Project Department. Upon retiring, they moved to Florida and resided for 30 more years until entering a home in Kansas, where they lived out their final years together. He never lost his love of the Adirondacks, and told many stories of hunting the elusive white tail deer. He is survived by a daughter, Jeri (Tom) Schrag of Kansas; son, Joe (Claire) VanDerwerker of Rotterdam; granddaughters, Sharon (Brian) Regier and Rachel Schrag; grandsons, Jesse (Stephanie) VanDerwerker and Duane VanDerwerker; great-grandchildren, Lauren, Clara, Luke, Nehemiah Regier, and Cullen VanDerwerker. Remembrances in Paul's name may be made to Community Hospice of Schenectady, 1411 Union St., Schenectady, NY 12308.
