Sara Arellano Calvillo

Sara Arellano Calvillo, 68, went to be with her Heavenly Father on Nov. 17, 2009, at San Juan Mercy Hospital in Carmichael, Calif. She had family and her lifelong friend by her bedside.

Sara was born to Juan L. Arellano and Gregoria Corona Arellano on April 10, 1941, in Newton.

Sara graduated from Newton High School in 1959. After graduation, she went to work at Halstead Hospital in the dietary department as a dietitian's aide until she was married in 1965.

She moved with her husband to California, where she resided for the next 44 years.

In California, she was an active businesswoman and began her career in the banking business. She worked for World Savings and Loan, where she advanced in her career until she obtained the position of branch manager, a position she retained until her retirement.

Her greatest joy was serving the bilingual community and meeting their needs.

She is survived by her children, daughter Monique Rich of Pleasanton, Calif., and son Juan Carlo of Campbell, Calif.; and grandchildren Raquel Rich and Anthony Rich; brothers and their wives, Jesse Arellano and Amelia of Newton; Robert Arellano and Rosella of Newton, Eddie Arellano and Laurie of Tonkawa, Okla., Tom Arellano and Sharon of Newton; brother-in-law, Manual Jaso of Wichita; sisters and their spouses, Vera Arellano Macias and Adolpho of Roseville, Calif., and Rosie Arellano Johnson and John from Citrus Heights, Calif.; and numerous nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Julia Arellano Jaso.

A Memorial Mass will be Saturday at Our Lady of Guadalupe. The Rosary will be at 10:30 a.m. and the Mass at 11 a.m.

A memorial has been established for Our Lady of Guadalupe Church.
