Geneva Kaufman

Geneva Kaufman, 88, of McPherson, passed away Sunday (Aug. 2, 2009) while in the company of family members at her home.

Geneva was born on Sept. 16, 1920, in rural McPherson, the daughter of Chris L. and Martha (Graber) Stucky. They preceded her in death.

She attended Victory Elementary School and graduated from McPherson High School. She also attended Bethel College in North Newton.

She was a member of First Mennonite Church in McPherson.

She was a homemaker and also had worked as a lunch room cook for Elyria School and at Elyria Lumber and Mercantile in Elyria.

She was a former member of the King City E.H.U.

Geneva married Marlin Wedel on March 7, 1941, in Moundridge. He died on Dec. 1, 1960.

She married Alvin Jacob Kaufman on March 3, 1973, in Moundridge. He died on Sept. 22, 2003.

Surviving members of her family include daughters, Joleen Pauls and husband, Herb, of Hutchinson, and Mary Ellwood and husband, Doug, of Little River; a son, Randall Kaufman and wife, Betsy, of Windom; sister-in-law, Milly Stucky of North Newton; seven grandchildren, Jody Schamle and husband, John, Tim Pauls and wife, Christal, Lynn Schlosser and husband, Todd, Jill Ayers and husband, Kevin, Scott Ellwood and wife, Sheri, Cristina Woodall and husband, Scott, and David Kaufman and wife, Sarah; 12 great-grandchildren, Jayden and Michael Schamle, Caden and Cassie Pauls, Jonathan and Rebecca Schlosser, Leah and Maura Ayers, Tabitha and Kate Ellwood, and Erik and Evan Kaufman; and other relatives and friends.

She also was preceded in death by a brother, Howard Stucky, and son and daughter-in-law, Allen and Bonnie Wedel.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at First Mennonite Church in McPherson, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m.

Graveside service will be at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at Eden Mennonite Church Cemetery in rural Moundridge. A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. at First Mennonite Church in McPherson, with Pastor Kathy Neufeld Dunn officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Mennonite Church or Bethel College and sent in care of Glidden-Ediger Funeral Home, 222 W. Euclid St., McPherson, KS 67460.
