Obituary

Goulding "Sandy" Emery Sanderson, 90, of De Soto, passed away Thursday (Jan. 18, 2018).

Sandy was born April 26, 1927 in Dodge City to Ernst S. and Margueritte Agnes (Byrne) Sanderson. He grew up in Newton and graduated from Newton High School in 1945. After high school, Sandy served in the US Army during WWII. He attended the University of Kansas and received his bachelor's and master's degrees. Sandy lived in Lawrence and Derby. He taught while in Derby and then moved to Lenexa where he taught at Shawnee Mission North for 31 years as a biology teacher, retiring in 1988. Sandy moved to De Soto in 2007. He will be missed by family and friends.

Sandy was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his children: Kathleen Sue and Michael Ross of De Soto, Michael Eugene and Patricia Sanderson of De Soto, Denise Kay Jones of Shawnee and Marietta Lynn Bichelmeyer of De Soto; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and brother, Glenn Dean Sanderson of East Peoria, Illinois.

Private graveside inurnment will be held at a later date at Greenwood Cemetery, Newton. Memorial contributions may be to Great Lakes Caring Hospice Foundation. Arrangements by: Bruce Funeral Home, Gardner, KS 913-856-7111.
