Eugene Clayton Reusser
WICHITA, Kan. - Eugene Clayton Reusser, resident of Blackwell, died Monday, Aug. 2, 2010, at St. Francis Hospital in Wichita, Kan. He was 88.
Eugene Clayton Reusser was born in La Junta, Colo., on Feb. 22, 1922. He was the son of Otto and Selma Krehbiel Reusser. As an infant, his family moved to Drake, Canada, where he began kindergarten. They then moved to Moundridge, Kan., where he attended first grade. The family later moved to Deer Creek, where he attended second grade through high school, graduating from Deer Creek High School in 1940. He then attended one year at the Northern Oklahoma College in Tonkawa and also attended one year at Bethel College in Newton, Kan. He later entered the United States Army, where he was a tech sergeant serving in World War II in the Pacific where he was a pharmacist.
In 1946 he was discharged from the United States Army and moved back to Deer Creek, where he married Norma Latschar on July 20, 1947, in Deer Creek, where they settled. He then furthered his education back at Bethel College where he received his bachelor's of education. They moved to Fairfax, where he began teaching and coaching. He later received his master's of education from Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva. He taught and coached for 26 years teaching at Deer Creek, Blackwell, Pretty Prairie, Kan., and Newton, Kan. After his retirement they moved back to Deer Creek, where he continued his farming and in the fall of 1997 they moved to Blackwell. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Blackwell. Eugene loved coaching and the boys he coached and loved spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Norma Reusser of Blackwell; three sons, Steve Reusser and wife Susan of Middleton, Wis., Ted Reusser and wife Susan of Andover, Kan., and Jim Reusser and wife Bobbye of Bartlesville; six grandchildren, Kevin Reusser and wife Kim of Ponca City, Liz Black and husband Kevin of River Falls, Wis., Ricky Reusser of Ames, Iowa, Erin Reusser of Wichita, Kan., Clay Reusser of Stillwater and Ben Reusser of Manhattan, Kan.; three great-grandchildren, Kennedy Reusser of Ponca City, Isaiah Black of River Falls, Wis., and Micaiah Black of River Falls, Wis.; and two sisters, Maurine Kuehny of Ponca City and Lois Krehbiel of Kenosha, Wis.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Bob and Ed Reusser; and one sister, Orvilla Dester.
Graveside services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 7, at Bayard Cemetery in Deer Creek with the Rev. Kristen L. Brown of the First United Methodist Church in Blackwell officiating. Burial will follow.
A memorial has been established at the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation in memory of Eugene Reusser.
