Former owners of Red Coach Inn die in car crash

The former owners of Newton's Red Coach Inn were killed Tuesday near Manhattan in a car crash.

Eldon L. Thorman, 87, and his wife, Viola, 88, of Clay Center were killed when their 2009 Chevy Impala was struck by a truck driven by Kenneth Plummer, 47, of Wamego. Plummer was not injured.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, Thorman pulled out in front of Plummer's truck at 11:32 a.m. Tuesday one and a half miles east of Manhattan on U.S. Highway 24.

The Thormans owned Red Coach for several years before selling it last summer.

Arrangements for the funerals are being handled by Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home of Manhattan.

All three individuals were wearing their seat belts.
