Marvin W. Cunningham

Marvin W. Cunningham, 89, of Newton, died Friday (July 10, 2009) at Newton Medical Center.

He was born on June 11, 1920, in Canton to LeRoy and Hazel (Fortner) Cunningham. They preceded him in death.

He married Elimina F. Young, and she preceded him in death.

Marvin served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of the VFW and the American Legion, both of Newton. He also was a member of the Newton Eagles Lodge.

Marvin made many friends and touched many people on his life journey. He especially was well thought of by the staff of Asbury Park.

Survivors include a brother, Johnny F. Cunningham of Kingman.

He also was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.

Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at Petersen Funeral Home in Newton.

Service will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Greenwood Cemetery in Newton, with Pastor Gary Bell of First Christian Church in Newton officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Asbury Park Good Samaritan Fund in care of the funeral home.
