Betty Lucile Steinkirchner

Betty Lucile Steinkirchner died Sunday (July 26, 2009).

She was born on Jan. 19, 1926, in Newton to Emmett E. Smith and Flossie L. (Pletcher) Smith. They preceded her in death.

She married Leo Frank "Pete" Steinkirchner Jr. on Sept. 20, 1952. He passed away on Sept. 27, 1986.

During the years Betty worked as a dental assistant for Dr. R. C. Nichol and as a telephone operator for Southwestern Bell, and she retired as a food service employee for Newton School District USD 373.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Altar Society, and a charter member of the V.F.W. and the American Legion Auxiliary.

She is remembered by her family as a faithful wife, loving mother and grandmother.

Betty is survived by four children, Patricia King and husband, Kevin, of Hot Springs, Ark., Gary Steinkirchner and wife, Daphynne, of Amarillo, Mary Steinkirchner of Newton, and Susan Kile and huband, Kenny, of Shannon City, Iowa; four grandchildren, Lindsey, Kody and Dusty Kile, and Brandon Steinkirchner; and one brother, Norris E. Smith of Akron, Ohio.

She also was preceded in death by two brothers, Jack E. and Robert L. Smith, and an infant son, David L. Steinkirchner.

Friends may sign the book from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home in Newton or online at www.broadwaycolonialfh.com.

Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

A private family inurnment will be conducted.

In lieu of flowers, the family wishes memorials be made to Hospice Care of Kansas or Newton Medical Center, in care of the funeral home, 120 E. Broadway, Newton, KS 67114.
