Waldo Balzer
Waldo Balzer, 98, died Friday (May 1, 2009) at Asbury Park
Greenhouses in Newton. He was born on Dec. 15, 1910, in Tyrone, Okla., to Peter
and Mary (Schmidt) Balzer. On June 21, 1942, he married Ruth Mosiman at
Missionary Church in Elbing. She preceded him in death on July 10, 2008. Waldo
was an active and faithful member of Grace Hill Mennonite Church in rural
Whitewater. Waldo was a long time farmer/stockman in the Whitewater area. He
enjoyed animals and was especially fond of watching wildlife and birds.
Family was very important to Waldo. He greatly looked
forward to spending time with his many friends and loving family. He was
especially fond of his five grandchildren, Rachel, Joel, Katelyn, Shannon and
Lauren, and his one great-granddaughter, Emma.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Kathy
Balzer of Whitewater; daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Ray Franz of Hesston;
five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. today at Petersen
Funeral Home in Newton, with family receiving friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
The casket will be open from 9:30 to service time Tuesday at
Grace Hill Mennonite Church in rural Whitewater, followed by graveside service
at 10 a.m. at Grace Hill Cemetery in rural Whitewater. Funeral service will
follow at 10:30 a.m. at the church, with Katherine Goerzen of the church
officiating.

Church, Hospice Care of Kansas or Asbury Park in care of the funeral home.
