Leota E. Altum
Leota E. Altum, 78, of
Newton, passed away Thursday (Nov. 27, 2008) at Sedgwick Healthcare Center.
Leota was born Aug. 3, 1930,
in Agra, the daughter of Clarence Earl and Jessie Lula (Minium) Reid.
She was employed with Axtell
Hospital for 23 years as a food services supervisor and later retired from
Bethel Hospital after the merger.
Leota was an avid bingo
player and enjoyed dancing. She enjoyed cooking when her family would get
together, and she had made quilts for her entire family.
She married Don E. Altum on
June 22, 1956, in Lyndon. He preceded her in death in 1991.
She is survived by her
children, Edward Lee Altum, Wesley Dean Altum, Jody Lynn Altum, Donnitta Ray
Warren, William Dearl Altum and Thomas Eldon Altum, all of the Newton area; 15
grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; sisters, Nancy Marie Keezer of Nebraska;
Verlamae Janece Kostelecky of Newton and Caroline Irene Thomas of Nebraska; and
a brother, Basil Wayne Reid of Florida.
She also was preceded in death
by her son, Lewis Glen Altum in 1979; brother, Cecil Marvin Reid; and her
parents.
Visitation will be from 3 to
5 p.m. Sunday at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home in Newton.
Funeral services will be at
10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home chapel, with Chaplain Denny Bell
officiating.
Burial will be at Greenwood
Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be
made to St. Jude's Hospital or the Good Shepherd Hospice and may be left in care
of the funeral home.
