Leo J. Brockman
Leo J. Brockman, 71, of
Newton, passed away Wednesday (Aug. 13, 2008) at his residence.
He was born Nov. 10, 1936, in
Beattie to Frank F. and Catherine A. (Latus) Brockman. They preceded him in
death.
He attended Beattie public
schools. Early in his working career, he worked for the Kansas Fish, Game and
Wildlife Department. Leo was a professional driver most of his working career,
retiring in 2001. He had lived in Newton since 1968.
On May 24, 1958, Leo married
Charlene Hamilton in Marysville. She preceded him in death on March 21, 2007.
Family was very important to
Leo, and he greatly looked forward to spending time with his loving family and
many friends.
Survivors include sons,
Michael and Vickie Brockman of Newton, and Jim and Anne Brockman of Emporia;
brothers, Lorenz Brockman of Newton, Henry Brockman of Home City, and Fred
Brockman of Macadonia, Iowa; sister, Theresa Burrington of Emerson, Iowa;
several nieces and nephews; grandsons, Jamie and Summer Brockman, Jeff
Brockman, and Matthew Brockman; granddaughter, Michelle and Tony Ponce;
great-grandsons, Tylar Brockman, Austin Mottu and Nicholas Ponce; and
great-granddaughter, Emma Brockman.
He also was preceded in death
by a brother, Francis Brockman.
Visitation will be from 1 to
9 p.m. Friday at Petersen Funeral Home in Newton, with family receiving friends
from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
Funeral service will be at 2
p.m. Saturday at Liberty Baptist Church in Newton, with Pastor Peter Ostrander
of the church officiating.
Burial will be at Greenwood
Cemetery in Newton.
Memorial contributions may be
made to the American Heart Association in care of the funeral home.
