Obituary

Richard Eugene Oller, 84, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday (May 8, 2018) at Presbyterian Manor in Newton.

He was born Sept. 11, 1933, in a farmhouse where his parents, Ralph and Lois Oller, were living in Canistota, South Dakota. He attended a one-room school through grade school and attended Canistota High School, where he graduated in 1951.

Richard worked on the farm with his father until he went to college at Omaha Baptist Bible College. He worked at Sears while attending college and that is where he met his wife, Betty. They were married on June 3, 1954, at Garden Community Church in rural Hesston, and they enjoyed 61 years together.

Richard and Betty joined Meridian Baptist Church in 1966, where he was a very faithful and active member. He loved to share the gospel, attend men's Bible study and visit people on a regular basis.

Richard worked for the city of Huron, South Dakota, until they moved to Hesston. In November 1965, he went to work for the City of Newton Engineering Department until he retired in July 1996. After retiring, he worked part-time for Bumper to Bumper Auto Parts for 10 years.

He is survived by daughters: Becky (Sam) Tremaine of Boise, Idaho, Beverly (Dan) Dowdy of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Barbara (Brad) Miller of Peck; one son, David (Beth) Oller of Newton; sister, Ruby Papendick of Pullman, Washington; 19 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; and many other cousins, family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; his parents; and one brother, Gerald Oller.
