Sherry Ione (Stutzman) Weaver

Sherry Ione (Stutzman) Weaver, 69, of Laramie, went to be with the Lord with her family by her side on June 28, 2008, after a courageous 12-year battle with cancer. She was born July 23, 1938, in San Jose, Calif., and adopted by her loving parents, Ray and Vada Stutzman, and raised in Ohio.

She married Raymond Weaver on August 28, 1960, in Greensburg. Into this union, two daughters and one son were adopted.

Sherry and Ray began married life in Newton, where they attended Eastside Methodist Church. After living in Newton for 15 years, they moved to Hesston for nine years, and from there to Topeka, where they resided for 16 years, attending Brookwood Covenant Church.

After retirement, they lived in Sandy, Utah, for two years and attended Grace Community Bible Church, moving from there to Nixa, Mo., for five years and attended Calvary Bible Church, and now living in Laramie, Wyo., attending Laramie Valley Chapel. Her love for Jesus brought friends and joy in abundance.

Sherry was a stay-at-home mother most of her married life, caring for her children as well as many children who attended her day care. When her children had grown, she worked a short time at Hesston College. She was very active in the Lord's work, teaching Sunday School, singing in church choirs, and helping to lead youth groups, and she was active in ladies Bible studies.

She loved hand quilting, scrapbooking, traveling, poem writing and her dogs, Riley and Lucy. Sherry was an avid Kansas City Royals and KU Jayhawks basketball fan. One of her greatest moments as a sports fan was when she was able to attend the NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament in Albuquerque, N.M., this past March and cheer on HER Wyoming Cowgirls, but her love for her family was her life. Anything she could do for them, she did. Her love for the Lord was best demonstrated in the unconditional love she gave to her children. The world is a better place because of Sherry's life and the children she and Ray raised.

Surviving is her husband Ray, of Laramie; daughters, Jamie Legerski and her husband, Joe, of Laramie, and Tosha Weaver of Topeka; son, Joey Weaver and his wife, Lehua, of Salt Lake City; her mother, Vada Stutzman of Indiana; brothers, David (Donna) of Indiana, Dennis (Anita) and Larry of Arkansas, Devon (Glada) of Ohio, and Vernon of Arizona; sisters, Sue Stucky of Colorado, who helped care for her and also was by her side at the time of her death, Betty Jordan and Shirley Craft of Arizona, Marjorie Paulson of Oklahoma, Sandy (Don) Griffith of Texas, and Diane Liles of Ohio; six grandchildren, Zane Beadles and Micah Weaver of Utah, Madison and Joseph Legerski of Laramie, and Chazmin Weaver and Skyler Berwert of Kansas; a host of loved nieces and nephews, two special, Kim (Steve) Johnson, and Jeff (Jennifer) Stucky of Colorado; and many, many friends across the nation.

She was preceded in death by her father, Ray Stutzman.

A memorial celebrating her life was today at Laramie Valley Chapel with Pastor Paul Martin officiating.

Cremation will take place at Genesis Medical Education and Research Institute, where her body has been donated.
