Martha W. Carstenson

Martha W. Carstenson, 91, died Tuesday (June 3, 2008) at Asbury Park in Newton. She was born Nov. 13, 1916, in Coldwater to Walter T. and Maud M. (Marley) Maris. She married Steven N. Carstenson on May 24, 1936, in Coldwater; he preceded her in death on Jan. 17, 1983. She was a member of East Side Methodist Church in Newton, Order of the Eastern Star, director of music for Jobs Daughters, Bethel No. 21 and a 4-H leader in Marquette. She is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Wayne A. and Jackie Carstenson of St. Joseph, Mo.; son and daughter-in-law, Lyle D. and Georgene Carstenson of Newton; six grandchildren, Jay, Vern, Marla, Carl, Cathy and Amy; 17 great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and sister, M. Elaine Coles of Topeka.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Glenn A. Maris.

Visitation will be from noon to 5 p.m. Friday at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home in Newton.

Memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at East Side Methodist Church with the Rev. John Goering officiating.

A private family inurnment will be conducted at a later date.

Memorials may be made to East Side Methodist Church and Asbury Park, both of Newton.
