Kenneth Edward (Booie)
Brainard, 84, lifetime Newton resident, passed away Friday (April 4, 2008).
Booie was born May 15, 1923,
to Chester Irvin and Mary Martha (May) Brainard in Newton.
He married Marylee Garrett in
Hutchinson on June 7, 1947. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II from
1941 to 1945 as an aviation machinist's mate, most of that time being spent at
Pearl Harbor.
Kenneth was a former lineman
and foreman with KG&E of Newton and also Thornton & Florence Electric
and C&T Line Construction of Wichita. He retired in 1985.
He held a membership with the
First United Methodist Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Eagles Lodge and the
American Legion Post No. 2, all of Newton.
Survivors include his wife of
61 years, Marylee of Newton; two daughters, Martha (John) Crowe of Rose Hill
and Peggy (Steve) Frankamp of Wichita; a sister, Judy Long of Newton; and
grandchildren, Cara and Brayden Crowe and Garrett Frankamp.
Preceding him in death were
brothers Roy, Russell and Chester (Pebby) Brainard, and sisters Wilma Jean
Stein, Lucille Linderman, Esther Armstrong, Alma Shipley and Charlotte Stevens.
Services will be at 10 a.m.
Tuesday at the Broadway Colonial Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jeff Gannon
presiding.
Visitation will be from noon
to 8 p.m. Monday with the family greeting friends from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the
funeral home.
Burial will be at Greenwood
Cemetery in Newton. Military services will be conducted by the Navy Color
Guard.
