Switlana Korobka Briar, 68, passed away
Sunday (Aug. 26, 2018) at Newton Medical Center.
Switlana was born on April 28, 1950,
the daughter of Anatoly and Anna (Mechetnaja) Korobka in Ulm,
Germany.
On Oct. 5, 2002, she married Stan Briar
at the Highland Trinity United Church of Christ in Newton. Switlana
worked as a secretary, administrative assistant and, most recently,
in the insurance department at Newton Medical Center, as well as
Dillon's in Newton. She served as past president of
the Oil Secretaries Association of Wichita, and was a member of the Harvey County Genealogical Society.
Switlana was known for her outstanding
desserts, love of family and sharing of wisdom with family and
friends.
She is survived by her sister, Luba
Brinkman; brothers, Victor Korobka and George (Virginia) Korobka;
eight nieces and nephews; 10 great-nieces and nephews; four
great-great-nieces and nephews; and her loyal companion, her dog
Wolfie. Switlana is preceded in death by her parents, Anatoly and Anna; husband, Stan; and nephew, George Holm.
Visitation will be held from 1 to 8
p.m. Friday (Aug. 31, 2018), with family there from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at
Broadway Colonial Funeral Home. Graveside services and interment will
be held at 1 p.m. Saturday (Sept. 1, 2018) at Highland Trinity United
Church of Christ Cemetery, 8322 N. Anderson Rd., Newton. Memorials are suggested to Caring Hands
Humane Society or St. George Orthodox Christian Cathedral and may be
sent to Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, 120 E. Broadway, Newton, KS
