Helen Rose 'Honey Rose' Bishop

LEON - Helen Rose "Honey Rose" Bishop, 68, of Leon, formerly of the Durham area, died Friday (March 21, 2008) at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital in El Dorado.

She was born Oct. 21, 1939, in Hillsboro, the daughter of Daniel and Alice May (Anderson) Brunner.

Helen graduated from Hope Rural High School and received her LPN degree from The University of Kansas.

Helen came to Leon from the Durham area, where she had lived for a number of years. She worked as a nurse for many years and was working at Friendly Acres in Newton in the home health department at the time of her retirement.

Helen was a member of Canton Christian Church and loved helping people, making greeting cards, owning a coffee and antique shop, playing cards and watching KU basketball. She was a Sunday School teacher, a retired nurse and friend to all.

Helen married Thomas Bishop; he preceded her in death on Dec. 12, 1993.

She leaves three daughters, Robin Roush and husband, Ron, of Leon, Alyce Bishop and husband, Dustin Kadous, of Topeka, and Joy Bishop of Topeka; brother, John Brunner of Hope; and grandchildren, Dylan, Theo, Erin, Cason and Eve. Ian and Cyrus also survive.

She also was preceded in death by a sister, Carol Brunner-Rutledge.

Visitation with the family will be from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Carlson Funeral Home in El Dorado.

Graveside service will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Fort Scott National Cemetery.
