Celia Hernandez

Celia Hernandez, 77, passed away Sunday (Feb. 3, 2008) at her residence in Newton.

She was born Oct. 14, 1930, in Newton to Pedro and Maria (Regalado) Hernandez. They preceded her in death.

Celia was a member of the American Legion. In her younger years, she was part of the choir at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Newton. Celia was an avid bowler and fisherman. She loved all animals, especially cats.

Survivors include sisters, Teresa Alvarado of Kansas City, Mo., and Petra Lujano, Belen Terrones, Eldelmara Pedrosa and Jovita Nunez, all of Newton; brothers, Robert Hernandez of Newton, Rudolpho Hernandez of Wichita and Rosalio Hernandez of Newton; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She also was preceded in death by a brother, Carlos Vasques, and a sister, Felicia Hernandez.

Rosary will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at Petersen Funeral Home Chapel in Newton.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, with Father Juan Garza of the church officiating.

Burial will be at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Newton.

Memorial contributions may be made to the church in care of the funeral home.
