Mitchell L. Wedel

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Mitchell L. Wedel, 46, died Monday (Feb. 18, 2008) at Community Hospice at Darlington Oaks in Verona, Miss.

He was born May 16, 1961, in Newton, the son of Lavern and Louise Koehn Wedel. They survive of Okolona, Miss.

As a young man growing up in Mississippi, he farmed the land with his family. In 1984, he started his career in the oil production industry where he retired after 23 years, last working for Plains All American Oil Co.

He was a master woodworker and loved restoring cars. He enjoyed golfing with his friends, playing with and watching his sons play sports, his dogs Brandy, Hurley and Peepers, eating steaks cooked by his brothers at Ole Hucks Restaurant, watching the Super Bowl with his family, and most of all riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle with his friends. He was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church, where he enjoyed many years of faithful service to the Lord.

Other survivors include his wife of 27 years, Marr Wedel of Bakersfield, whom he married March 15, 1980; two sons, Triston Wedel of Amory, Miss., and Ashton Wedel of Bakersfield; brothers, Craig Wedel and wife, Cindy, of Okolona, Ryan Wedel and wife, Ronda, of Amory, and Brent Wedel and wife, Stacey, of Okolona; nephews, Chuck and Lee Wedel of Okolona; nieces, Brooklyn and Morgan Wedel of Okolona; father-in-law, Willard Holdeman and wife, Rosa, of Moundridge; brother-in-law, Allen Holdeman and wife, Jane, of Indianola, Miss.; sisters-in-law, Gwendene Schmidt and husband, Raymond, of Clarksdale, Miss., Diane Perko of Salem, Ore., Lois Unruh and husband, Wavern, of Galva, Lavone Koehn and husband, Bruce, of Okolona, and Karla Scott of Galva; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and step-family.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Alfred and Elma Koehn, and Ervin and Gerturde Wedel; uncle, LeRoy Koehn; mother-in-law, Mae Holdeman; step-mother-in-law, Clara Holdeman; and brothers-in-law, Dennis Nightingale and Ron Perko.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Holland-Harris Funeral Directors Okolona Chapel.

Service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church of Okolona, with Pastor Tem Mattox officiating.

Pallbearers will be Chuck Wedel, Lee Wedel, Jandi Koehn, Chris Burdick, B.J. Tittlemier and K.C. Tittlemier. Honorary pallbearers will be Nigel Bilderbeck, Jim Small and Kenny Molitor.

Burial will follow in the Okolona God in Christ Mennonite Congregation Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Community Hospice at Darlington Oaks, P.O. Box 1028, Verona, MS 38879.
