Warne Burton
1923 - 2019
Obituary
On Sunday (Feb. 17, 2019), Warne Glen
Burton, loving husband, father of two and grandfather of five, passed
away at the age of 95. Warne was born on Aug. 21, 1923, to Jacquitta
Russell and Glen Burton in Meeker, Oklahoma. He was the second of
five children.
As a young man, Warne served in the US
Army 528th Corps of Engineers. During his military career, he
achieved the rank of Corporal, even being called "Corporal
Jonesy" by his peers. After WWII, on Jan. 14, 1946, he started
his 42-year career as a dispatcher with the Santa Fe Railroad.
On Feb 16, 1950, he married his
lifelong love, Ada Mae Maddox. This year they would have celebrated
their 69th wedding anniversary. Together they raised two daughters,
Laura and Patricia.
Warne had an extensive love for yard
work and fishing. You could almost always find him out in his garden,
mowing his or someone's lawn or sitting in his chair next to the
garage stealing a nap waving at the traffic. He liked being the
handyman and getting work done. He had a true passion for doing it
right the first time, so you don't have to do it again. Warne will be
remembered most for his love for his family and for his short temper.
He is proceeded in death by his father,
Glen; his mother, Jacquitta; his wife, Ada Mae; and his brothers Roy,
George and Harry.
He is survived by his sister, Eula
(Burton) Barrett; his daughters, Laura Burton and Patricia Stewart;
his five grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Warne Burton's service will be at 10:30
a.m. Friday (Feb. 22, 2018) at Petersen Family Funeral Home, with
viewing before the service from 9 to 10:30. Graveside service will
not follow funeral and will be done at a later time at the Winfield
Cemetery.
