Ada Mae Burton

Ada Mae Burton, 81, passed away on Wednesday (June 1, 2011) at Newton Medical Center.

She was born on Aug. 7, 1929, in Winfield, the daughter of James T. and Flora T. (Wilson) Maddox. Ada worked for many years for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company as an operator and at the same time was a wonderful mother and homemaker.

On Feb. 16, 1950, she married Warne G. Burton in Cottonwood Falls, and he survives of the home. Other survivors include two daughters, Laura J. Burton of Peabody and Patricia Stewart (Harold) O'Neal Jr. of Walton; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren on the way.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and three sisters. Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Petersen Funeral Home Chapel in Newton. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Petersen Funeral Home Chapel, with a graveside service following at 2 p.m. at Highland Cemetery in Winfield.

Memorials may be made to American Heart Association or American Diabetes Association, in care of the funeral home.
