Obituary

Lawrence A. Clover, 88, died Wednesday (Feb. 20, 2019) at his residence. He was born Nov. 15, 1930, in Neodesha, to Charles and Maddie (Warner) Clover.

Lawrence lived on a farm near Neodesha and attended South Lone School through the sixth grade. The family moved from Montgomery County to Gray County, where he graduated from the eighth grade. He attended two years of high school before enlisting in the United States Navy in 1947.

He served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, serving on various ships including the USS Iowa battleship. He was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1949. Following his discharge from service, he went to work for Boeing Aircraft.

On June 6, 1951, he married Doris N. Terry in Havana, Arkansas; she survives of the home. In 1956, Lawrence started working for the railroad while living in Satanta. He moved with his family to Walton in 1968 and was retired as a conductor from the Santa Fe Railroad in 1991.

Lawrence was a patriotic person and devoted life member and officer of the VFW. He was also a 32nd degree Mason and member of the Shrine. He also proudly served with the Kansas Patriot Guard.

He had a love of gardening and enjoyed sharing his crops with friends and neighbors.

Lawrence is survived by his ex-wife, friend and companion, Doris Clover; daughter, Cynthia and her husband Gordon Regier; son, Terry Clover and his companion Marty Stevenson; four grandchildren: Kimberly McCallister, Melisha Oakleaf-Wilson, TJ Clover and Shannan Clover; six great-grandchildren: Joseph Romero, Sierra Johnson, Ian McCallister, Patrick McCallister, Dylan Vajnar and Maddie Vajnar; and two great-great-grandchildren, Michael Habinger and Caroline Munger.

He is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Clarence and William Clover; two sisters, Lois Cooper and Mary Emma Miner; and grandchildren: Kevin Regier, Zachary Regier, Rowdy Regier and Megan Regier.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Monday (Feb. 25, 2019) at Petersen Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Jerrol Martens presiding. Visitation will be 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday (Feb. 24, 2019) at Petersen Funeral Home, with the family receiving friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Burial with Military Honors will be in the Walton Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to Walton Fire Department or Good Shepherd Hospice in care of Petersen Funeral Home.
