Donald E. Cooprider
HESSTON - Donald E.
Cooprider, 80, accountant, died Monday (Sept. 18, 2006) at his residence in
Hesston. He was born Feb. 3, 1926, to Irl and Lizzie (Zimmerman) Cooprider in
Newton. He married Lena L. Slagell on May 31, 1952, in Hydro, Okla. She
preceded him in death in 1984. He was a member of Hesston Mennonite Church. He
accepted Christ as his savior and was baptized on Oct. 20, 1939, at Hesston
Mennonite Church. He grew up on a farm near Hesston and was deferred on the the
farm during World War II.
In October 1949, he
volunteered to serve at the Mennonite Central Committee headquarters in Akron,
Pa., where he was an accountant in the business office. It was there that he
met his wife.
His grandchildren always were
special to him, and he was pleased to participate at four of their baptismal
services.
He served as treasurer of the
South Central Mennonite Conference for 14 years.
Survivors include: a son,
Philip and Phyllis Cooprider of Vancouver, Wash.; daughters, Claudia Nathe of
Apopka, Fla., and Catherine and Roger Ediger of Enid, Okla.; and seven
grandchildren.
He also was preceded in death
by two infant sisters.
Visitation will be from 5 to
7 p.m. Thursday at Miller Funeral Home in Hesston.
Memorial service will be at 4
p.m. Friday at Hesston Mennonite Church in Hesston with Pastors John Murray and
Cheryl Hershberger officiating.
Burial will be 2 p.m. Friday
at Eastlawn Cemetery in Hesston.

of the funeral home, 107 S. Lancaster Ave., Hesston, KS 67062.
