Earl E. Abbey

Earl E. (Gene) Abbey, 72, died Tuesday (Oct. 17, 2006) at his home in Newton. He was a life-long pipeliner and current owner of Burrton Safety Services. He was born May 19, 1934, in Virgil, the son of Irl and Patra Abbey. On Dec. 7, 1952, he married Sibyl Spain of Cunningham, and she preceded him in death Nov. 9, 1994, as well as infant twins, Robert and Roberta of Amarillo, Texas, in 1964. Survivors include: Pam Stubby of Burrton, Sheryl Cooley of Mount Hope, Patti McCaskill of Mount Hope and Tim Abbey of Safety Harbor, Fla. He has eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

He has one surviving sister, Bonnie Rupp of Pueblo, Colo. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Lucille Klinginsmith, Louise Bischoff and Hazel Crowell.

Funeral service was at 10 a.m. today at Wulf-Ast Mortuary in Mount Hope with Wayne Pittman presiding. Burial was at Mount Hope Greely Township Cemetery.

A memorial has been established with Renal Care, Dialysis Center in Newton.
