David Roland Orpin

David Roland Orpin, 87, retired independent master masonry contractor, died Oct. 31, 2006.

He was a World War II veteran, serving in the Army Air Corp. He also volunteered at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Topeka.

David was preceded in death by his son, John, and his parents, Charles and Alice Orpin.

He is survived by son, Jim Orpin of Denton, Texas; daughter, Kate Cook of Wichita; brothers, Jack Orpin of Newton and Edwin Orpin of Broken Bow, Okla.; sisters, Margaret and Marian Akers of Newton; five grandchildren four great-grandchildren; and countless extended family.

He will lie in state, and the family will greet friends from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Petersen Family Funeral Home in Newton. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Greenwood Cemetery in Newton.

Memorial contributions may be given to Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 971 in Newton.
