DODGE CITY - Doris Evelyn Zimmerman passed away September 18, 2017 in Dodge City, Kansas. Doris was born October 6, 1924 in Newton, Kansas, the daughter of Ira A. and Gladys (Reffner) Kurr. She graduated from Newton High School and worked for Dillons Company in Newton, Kansas. She later transferred to Dillons in Dodge City and was promoted to head cashier. While in Dodge City, Doris met the love of her life, Ben Zimmerman, Jr., and the couple were married in Newton, Kansas on August 14, 1949. Doris served as a director of Fidelity State Bank and Trust Company, Dodge City, Kansas.

She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Suzanne Zimmerman, and son, Ben (Candace) Zimmerman III; grandchildren Tracie (David) Raynham, Brett Naccarato, Amanda Naccarato, Angela (Karel) Princ, and Benjamin (Hailey) Zimmerman IV; and great-grandchildren Evelyn Raynham, Karel, Anna, and Jonas Princ, and Benjamin Zimmerman V. Doris is also survived by numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins. She was preceded in death by Ben Jr., who passed away September 29, 2002 after 53 years of marriage, her parents, and her brothers Buford, Wilbur, and Leslie Kurr.

A celebration of Doris's life will be held September 25, 2017 at First Presbyterian Church, 803 Central Ave., Dodge City, Kansas at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, Dodge City, Kansas. Visitation will be Sunday, September 24, 2017 from noon to 6:00 p.m. at Swaim Funeral Home with family present to receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Suzanne, Ben, and all of Doris's family are thankful to the staff of Manor of the Plains and Hospice of the Prairie for her loving care. The family would also like to extend special thanks to Kurt Lampe, Tasha Algrim, and Dr. Andrew Schowengerdt.
