Margaret Naomi Schadt

Margaret Naomi Schadt, 88, died Saturday (Dec. 10, 2005). She was born May 17, 1917, to the Rev. Frederick J. and Verena Reichart Schadt in Lyndon in Osage County. Her father's ministry took the family to Vassar, Naperville , Ill., Leavenworth and Jewel where she graduated from high school in 1935. She attended Kansas University for two years and finished her bachelor of arts degree at Park College in 1940. In 1963, she received her master's degree from Kansas State Teacher's College in Emporia.

Her 28 years of teaching in Kansas included home economics and social science at Randall High School, Auburn High School and El Dorado Junior High School. In 1946, she married Gilbert W. Lietzke, who was a farmer/rancher near Augusta. She earned her elementary teaching certificate at Southwestern College in Winfield and then taught 22 years at the elementary level in El Dorado. When her husband retired from farming, they moved to El Dorado where they were members of Trinity United Methodist Church. Gilbert preceded her in death in 1986.

In 1987, Naomi traveled to the Holy Land with her brother and sister-in-law. In 1996, Naomi sold her home in El Dorado and moved to a duplex at Friendly Acres in Newton. She was a member of Salem United Methodist Church. She actively volunteered at her church and the nursing home. Her mission work included a trip with other members of her church to the McCurdy School at Espanola, N.M. After a stroke in 2002, she became a resident of Friendly Acres Retirement Community where she lived until her death. She was known for her warm, generous spirit and her continual positive attitude despite adversity.

Survivors include: a sister-in-law, Florence M. Schadt of Emporia; a nephew, Gordon F. Schadt of Anchorage, Alaska; nieces, Elinor Cowell of Topeka, Grace Jones of Anchorage and Margaret Brokaw of Tampa, Fla.; and numerous great-nephews and great-nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Marvin Schadt.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Tuesday at Friendly Acres Chapel.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Friendly Acres Chapel with the Revs. Sherry Clemons and Pamela Martinez officiating.

Burial will be noon Tuesday in Elmwood Cemetery near Augusta.
