Charles F. “Charlie” Guinty, 88 of Arkansas City, KS passed away Sunday, February 25, 2018. Funeral services have been scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 2, 2018, at the First Presbyterian Church. Pastor Steve Butler will officiate. Burial will follow in the Memorial Lawn Cemetery. Friends may greet the family from 6:30-8:00 p.m. Thursday evening at the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home and Crematory.
Charlie was born April 28, 1929, to Fred J. and Eunice E. (Burnham) Guinty in Silver City, NM. He was raised in Newton, KS. After high school, Charlie joined the U.S. Navy. He served on the USS Isabel and was active duty from 1946-1951.
On June 31, 1951, Charlie married Joyce Hampton in Newton, KS. The couple made their home in several places before settling in Arkansas City. Charlie worked as a meter technician for Kansas Gas and Electric for 37 years until his retirement. He was a member of the local KG&E Retirement Club and was instrumental in the clubs restoration of the Girl Scout Hogan. Charlie always had projects, including remodeling and building houses, and rebuilding wrecked cars. After retirement he enjoyed restoring Model A’s and was an active member of the Wichita A’s Model A Club. Most of all he cherished spending time with his family. Charlie was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce; son Steven Kent Guinty and wife Duana of Oologah, OK; daughter Teresa Ann Minnich and husband Dan of Pleasanton, TX; son Charles Scott Guinty and Judy Hill of Wichita, KS; grandchildren Chelsea Renee Guinty, Velva Roxanne Woodward, Ethan Hale Guinty, Charles Steven Guinty, Chance Hampton Guinty, Valerie Ann (Spiser) Albin, Nicholas Aaron Spiser, Jennifer Minnich Châteauneuf, Kimberly Suzanne Minnich, great-grandchildren Maddox Aaron Albin, and Allison Sue Albin.
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Suzan Gail (Guinty) Spiser, and brother Darrell Guinty.
A memorial has been established for the Arkansas City Public Library. Contributions may be made through the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home and Crematory. Online condolences may be made at www.rindt-erdman.com.
