Maurine M. Murphree

Maurine McCann Murphree, 87, died Jan. 29, 2007, in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Maurine was born May 26, 1919, in Newton to Everett and Myrl McCann. She graduated from Stephens College in 1938 and from Kansas State University in 1940, where she was a member of Chi Omega sorority. While at Kansas State, she met Joseph A. Murphree and married him in 1940. They were married 55 years until Joseph's death in 1995. They lived in Newton until retirement and spent summers in Estes Park, Colo., throughout their married life. In 1980, they retired to Sun Lakes, Ariz., for the winter months and were members of the Sun Lakes Methodist Church. Several years after her husband's death, she moved to Colorado Springs to live during the winter and continued to live in Estes Park during the summer.

Survivors include a daughter, Lynn Eldridge of Danville, Calif.; a son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Sandy Murphree of Estes Park; granddaughter, Nicole Murphree of Beaverton, Ore.; grandson, Nate Murphree of Aurora, Colo.; sister and brother-in-law, Theress and Bob Bruner of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and nieces, Robin Hudson of Estes Park and Barbara Johnson of Lee's Summit, Mo.

Family services will be private. Contributions in Maurine's memory may be made to Pikes Peak Hospice, a non profit organization located at 825 E. Pikes Peak Ave., Suite 600, Colorado Springs, CO 80903-3624.
