William F. Schneider was born in Bohnhorst, Hanover, Germany, September 17, 1868, and departed this life at Bethel hospital, Newton, Kansas, August 17, 1946, at the age of 77 years and 11 months. Due to the tight grip of military training in Germany Williams parents sent him to America, a boy of 16, with his older sister, Minnie Schneider, Mrs. Adolph Groneman, making their home in Brooklin, New York with their brother, Fred. Four years later, 1888, he came to Kansas and worked for different farmers. About 12 years later he settled in McPherson county on a farm 6 miles east of Moundridge where he resided until his death. Just before settling down in the farm, December 31, 1900, he was united in marriage to Mary Jantz of McPherson county. His loved companion preceded him in death by 6 years almost to the day, in August 15, 1940. To this union were born four sons, Henry, Albert, Dan and Clarence and two daughters, Clara and Minnie, all of the home community, Dan, Clara and Minnie of the home. He also leaves to mourn his departure thirteen grandchildren, one preceded him in death, a brother, Fred of New York, and so far as is known, a brother Carl, and many friends. Funeral services were held at the Meridian Mennonite church Tuesday, August 20, at 2:00 p.m. at the home and 2:30 p.m. ar the church. Interment was made in the church cemetery.
