SEDGWICK: Dorothy L. Kennedy, 88, died Monday (January 11, 2021) at the Homestead of Halstead.

She was born on March 20, 1932 in Hallowell, Cherokee County, Kansas, the daughter of Opal Elizabeth (Norris) and Raymon Theodore Wilson.

Dorothy was a graduate of Columbus High School, Columbus, Kanas and Mt. Carmel School of Nursing in 1953.

On May 21, 1953 she married Glenn Eldon Kennedy in Columbus, Kansas.

After obtaining her Registered Nurses degree, she worked for a short time at Wesley Medical Center and Halstead Health Clinic. Dorothy retired from the Hertzler Clinic after 22 years of service.

Dorothy was a longtime Sedgwick resident. She was very active in her church and held a longtime membership with the First Christian Church of Sedgwick.

She also belonged to the Athena GFWC and held a life membership with the Hicks-Davison American Legion Ladies Auxiliary in Sedgwick.

Her love for people was strong. Dorothy was always looking and planning ahead for her family and her friends. Her favorite pastimes included reading and crocheting.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; husband Glenn in November 24, 1996; a daughter Vicki Sue Kennedy; brother Raymon Eugene Wilson; and sister Thelma Daniels.

Survivors include four daughters, Deborah (John) Pittinger, Patricia (Robert) Unruh, Annette (Bill) Cook all of Sedgwick, Kansas, and Glenda (Greg) Krehbiel of Moundridge, Kansas; her sisters Betty Bookwalter of Santa Fe, New Mexico; grandchildren Christina (Shannon) Sporleder of McPherson, Kansas, Matthew (Brooke) Unruh of Lawrence, Kansas, William (Sarah) Hill of Sedgwick, Kansas, Timothy (Rebecca Rausch) Bales of McPherson, Kansas; Randi (Chad) Johnson of Ankeny, Iowa; and Shawn Pittinger of Anderson, S.C.; and seven great grandchildren.

Graveside services and inurnment will be at 10:00 A.M., Saturday (January 16, 2021) in the Hillside Cemetery in Sedgwick, Kansas.

In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established with the Sedgwick Senior Center and the First Christian Church of Sedgwick. Contributions may be sent to Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, 120 E. Broadway, Newton, Ks. 67114.
