Richard J. Rose, 72, 720 Grandview, died Friday, August 9, 1996, at Newton Medical Center.

He was born Feb. 23, 1924, to Richard A. and Olive (Reber) Rose in Hesston.  He married Joan Onstott Jan. 24, 1948, in Newton.  She survives.

He graduated from Newton High School in 1947.  He served in the U.S. Army as a corporal during World War II from 1942 to 1946.  He was a dairy farmer with his father in Hesston before and after the war.  He worked for the Santa Fe Railroad before beginning work as maintenance personnel at Newton Presbyterian Manor, where he worked for 24 years.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Newton and was a 50-year member of the American Legion.

Other survivors include one son, Dale Rose of Hesston; and three grandchildren.

Friends may sign the register book from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. today at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home.  Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Alden Dick officiating.  A private interment will be at Restlawn Gardens of Memory.  Memorial contributions may be made to Central Homecare and Hospice in care of the funeral home.
