Jean E. Wedel

MOUNDRIDGE - Jean E. Wedel, 84, retired school teacher and librarian, died Monday (Oct. 10, 2005) at Memorial Home in Moundridge. She was born June 8, 1921, to Daniel and Ada (Pleasant) Schmitt in Halstead. She married Gene L. "Speed" Wedel April 27, 1941, in Halstead. He preceded her in death Sept. 8, 1998. She was a longtime area resident and a member of First Mennonite Church of Christian in Moundridge. Survivors include: a granddaughter, Fatimah Abdul-Nur Peterson of Tucson, Ariz.; and a brother, Glen Schmitt of Halstead.

She also was preceded in death by: a son, James Wedel; a daughter, Janet Wedel; and two brothers, Jake Schmitt and Dale Schmitt.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Moundridge Funeral Home.

Graveside service will be 10:15 a.m. Friday at First Mennonite Church Cemetery in rural Moundridge.

Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Friday at First Mennonite Church of Christian with Pastor Phil Waite officiating.

Memorials have been established with First Mennonite Church and Memorial Home, both in care of the funeral home, 115 E. Cole, Box 410, Moundridge, KS 67107.
