Olive C. Cooper 90, went to be with her
Lord, Tuesday, August 27, 2019, at Via Christi Villages on Ridge
Road in Wichita, Kansas. She was born October 4, 1928, in Rural
Delaware County, Oklahoma to Jerry and Alma (Weaver) South.
On July 23, 1950 she married Edward Lee
Cooper at the University of Kansas Chapel in Lawrence, Kansas
Olive earned a BA of Art at the
University of Kansas and a BA and MA in Education at Wichita State
University.
Olive enjoyed a diverse working career,
including working at the former Lewin?s Department Store in
Wichita, where she dressed windows, as a fashion illustrator for the
Wichita Eagle and as a co-owner of a pre-school. She retired as a
public-school teacher of art and history in the Garden Plain Schools
and Allison Junior High in Wichita.
She enjoyed reading and was a lifelong
learner. She also spent time tending flower beds, and in her younger
years, enjoyed playing bridge. Olive enjoyed caring for her family
and was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Her family would like
to acknowledge Good Shepherd Hospice for the care and concern of
their wife and mom.
Olive is survived by her husband Lee;
daughter Susan Cooper and son Steve Cooper, both of Wichita. She
also is survived by 7 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and 1
great great-grandchild. Olive is preceded in death by her parents,
one brother Murry South, and one sister, Lois McVey.
A graveside committal service will be
at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 31, 2019, at Greenwood Cemetery in
Newton with Chaplain John Hull presiding.
