Emelia Ewy Sperling
Emelia Ewy Sperling was born March 28, 1878, in Gumarno, Austria, and passed to her heavenly home June 7, 1956, at the age of 78 years, two months, and nine days.
Upon confession of her faith in the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Saviour, she was baptized March 28, 1894, by Rev. Valentine Krehbiel and was received into the membership of the First Mennonite Church of Christian, Moundridge, Kan. She was married to Peter A. Sperling on Oct. 27, 1899. For 55 years they shared the joys and sorrows of married life. The first 14 years of their married life were spent on a farm in McPherson County. From there they moved to Harvey County where they lived on a farm for 22 years. After retiring they moved to Moundridge where she lived until the time of her departure. Her husband preceded her in death eleven months ago, as did a son in 1940.
Eleven months ago she suffered a stroke on the day on which her companion passed away. The stroke left her in a weakened condition and on Monday, June 4, she entered the Mercy hospital, where she suffered two light strokes and pneumonia. During recent months she often expressed her desire to go to her heavenly home.
She leaves two daughters, Clara, Ella and husband Otto, two sons, Menno and wife Irene, Marlin and wife Salome; 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; two sisters and one brother and many other relatives and friends.
