Neal E. Welty, 58, of Wellington, died Saturday (Aug. 14, 2004) at Sumner Regional Medical Center in Wellington. He was born Oct. 1, 1945, to Quenton and Elnora (Jenkins) Welty in Newton. He married Bettie J. Sells Nov. 5, 1966, in Wichita. She survives of the home. He was employed as an avionics technician at Honeywell Aircraft and later retired. After retirement, he was instrumental in the operation of Wellington's Compost Site. The site meant quite a lot to him and he was in charge of the daily operations since it opened in 1997. He enjoyed collecting coins, playing softball and watching NASCAR. Other survivors include: two daughters, Ramona S. Ashraf and husband Syed of Wichita and Katrina A. Moffitt and husband Andy of Chanute; his mother, Elnora Welty of Hesston; a brother, Ivan Welty and wife Janet of Hesston; and four grandchildren, Umar Ashraf, Hanif Ashraf and Andrew Moffitt II, all of Wichita, and Evan Moffitt of Chanute. He was preceded in death by his father, Quenton Welty. Visitation will be until 9 p.m. today at Day Funeral Home and Crematory in Wellington. Funeral service will be in 1 p.m. Tuesday at Day Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be 4 p.m. Tuesday at Hesston Cemetery. Memorials have been established with any youth organization of the donor's choice in care of the funeral home, 1030 Mission Road, Wellington, KS 67152-3235.
