Brother of Three Priests Killed in Newton Accident
The brother of three Wichita priests, Ludwig Joseph Eck, 44, died Saturday, June 21, in Newton.  He was struck by a car while mowing his lawn.  His priest brothers are:  Father Vincent Eck of Christ the King parish; Father Reinhard Eck of St. Jude parish, and Father Ivan Eck of St. Margaret Mary parish, all in Wichita.  Born Aug. 22, 1930, at Cheney, he married Bernetta Kraus, Aug. 9, 1958, at Garden Plain.  He was co-owner of Eck-Rau Ford Company and lived in Newton for one year.  He was a member of St. Mary parish and the Newton Knights of Columbus.  Survivors are the widow: a son, Damian, and a daughter, Mary, both of the home; mother: Mrs. Anna Eck, Garden Plain; brothers: Alphons, Oswego; Urban, Colwich; Fathers Vincent, Reinhard, and Ivan, Wichita; O.L. (Rusty), Goddard; George, McLean, Tex.; sisters:  Mrs. Mary Scripsick, Sharon; Mrs. Joan Becker, Garden Plain; Mrs. Ida Rau, Newton.His funeral Mass was concelebrated in St. Mary Church on Tuesday, June 24.  Concelebrants included Fathers Ivan, Reinhard, and Vincent Eck, Father Herbert Mohr, Father William Vogel, Father Colin Boor, and Msgr. Irvin Lampe, St. Mary pastor, who gave the homily.  Some 20 priests attended the funeral.  Burial was in St. Joseph Cemetery, Ost, Kansas.  Draper-Cannon Funeral Home made the arrangements.  The Catholic Advance, Wichita, Kansas.  Thursday, June 26, 1975.  Page 1.
