Burrton Man Killed in One-Vehicle Accident
One man was killed and another was injured late Monday in a one-vehicle accident northeast of Burrton, Harvey County Sheriff Galen Morford said. The fatality victim was identified as Wayne F. Seiler, 23, Burrton, the driver of a car that ran off a county road at a high rate of speed. Two trees in the vehicle’s path were uprooted. The car landed on its side at the edge of a farm pond. A passenger, John Fenton, 23, also of Burrton, managed to get out of the car and walk about 2.5 miles to a farm house to get help. Fenton was taken to Halstead Hospital where he was admitted with cuts to the head and legs and other injuries. The accident occurred about 3 miles northeast of Burrton. Morford said the accident was reported about 12:25 a.m. Tuesday and probably occurred shortly before midnight. (The Hutchinson News, Hutchinson KS. Tuesday April 28, 1987. Page 14).
Wayne Seiler, 23, Burrton, died April 27, 1987, at the Halstead Hospital. Born April 13, 1964, at Enid, Okla., he was an employee of Manche Salvage Yard, Hutchinson, and a resident of Burton for the past 19 years, moving from Enid, Okla. He was a member of Bethany Church of the Nazarene, Hutchinson, a 1983 graduate of Burrton High School, and a 1984 graduate of the Phoenix Institute of Technology. Survivors: parents, Terry and Karen Manche, of the home; father, John W. Seiler, Enid, Okla.; brothers, Terry Manche Jr., Kenneth Manche, both of Burrton, Brian Seiler, Enid, Okla.; sisters, Chris Seiler, Houston, Texas, Lisa Hiebert, Phoenix, Ariz., Dana Butler, 517 East 1st, Hutchinson, Leslie Manche, Burrton, Alva Plumley, Newton, Sandra Taylor, Burrton; grandparents, Allen and Dorothy Manche, 1210 East 10th, Hutchinson, Opal Rayner, Nash, Okla.; five nephews, and five nieces. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Bethany Church of the Nazarene, Hutchinson, the Rev. Ted Stoughton. Burial in the Burrton Cemetery. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and Thursday, and from I a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday at the Osenbaugh-Gustafson Funeral Home, Hutchinson.
