Shane Michael Batterman, 33, of Newton passed away on Friday (July 6, 2018) from a heart attack caused by drugs and alcohol use. He was born October 10, 1984, in Newton, the son of Wade and Bobbie (Rivera) Batterman.  Shane grew up in Newton and attended Newton Bible Christian School and Newton High School. He bravely served his country as an Aviation Electronics Technician in the U.S. Navy.  Service to friends and community was extremely important to Shane. His giving spirit touched many lives and will never be forgotten.

He is survived by his father, Wade Batterman and his mother, Bobbie Batterman, both of Newton; his sister, Chelsie Batterman of Wichita; his paternal grandmother, Leola Batterman of Salina and his maternal grandmother, Colleen Rivera of Newton; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. He is preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Richard Batterman and maternal grandfather, Antonio Rivera Sr. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday (July 13, 2018) at the Newton Christian Church, 210 Southport Drive, with Rev. Sherman Sack officiating. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Newton. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m., with family greeting friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m., Thursday (July 12, 2018) at Petersen Funeral Home in Newton.  Memorial donations in memory of Shane may be made to Passageways Ltd. in care of Petersen Funeral Home, 215 N Main St, Newton, KS 67114.  Petersen Funeral Home, Newton Kansas.  July 7, 2018.
