A woman was killed when she crashed her vehicle head-on into another Wednesday morning in Harvey County. The Kansas Highway Patrol identified a woman as 39-year-old Sarah Elizabeth Colling of Potwin, Kansas. She was a single mother with 4 children.

The crash happened at around 7 a.m. Wednesday on K-196 near Hillside, which is south-southeast of Newton. Trooper Chad Crittenden with the Kansas Highway Patrol said a westbound Honda Pilot was passing several vehicles when it struck an eastbound Hyundai Elantra.

Sarah Colling, the woman driving the Hyundai died at the scene. Crittenden said Trella Marie Batten, age 62 of Whitewater, (the woman driving the Honda) was transported to a Wichita hospital in very critical condition.

After the initial collision, two more vehicles were struck by debris. One vehicle was driven by Joseph Leigh Maske of Salina, and the other was driven by Gregg Edward Ewing of Carterville, Missouri. K-196 was shut down as crews worked to clear the scene, but it has since reopened.
